报告人简介:

Dr. Le Chang received his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and completed his postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Doris Tsao at the California Institute of Technology. He joined the Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences, as an investigator in 2018. Dr. Chang’s research focuses on the neural code of faces and objects in the primate brain, and his previous works have been published in Cell, Nature Neuroscience, Nature Communications, Current Biology, and Cell Reports. By combining fMRI, electrophysiology, and computational modeling, his research highlights the study of the neural code with a diverse set of visual features extracted from natural images, allowing objective and quantitative characterizations of many classic questions in visual neuroscience.

报告内容:

A key challenge in visual neuroscience is to understand the neural code for complex objects. It’s been discovered that the primate temporal lobe contains several functional subdomains that specialize in processing different types of objects, but the detailed computations used by these brain regions are still unclear. Using different types of computational tools, including generative models and neural network models, we are able to parameterize different types of objects, such as faces, and perform quantitative characterization of the brain’s code for complex objects. In this talk, I will discuss our recent progress in understanding the neural representation of complete and incomplete faces, and the topographic organization of the high-level visual areas in the primate brain.
