报告人简介：
David Waite is a Scientia Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. Professor Waite obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Tasmania, Masters degree from Monash University and PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His speciality areas of teaching are water chemistry and water treatment and his principle research area is that of investigation of physico-chemical processes in natural and engineered systems. In addition to his role at UNSW in Sydney, Professor Waite is the Executive Director and Chairman of the UNSW Centre for Transformational Environmental Technologies (CTET) in Yixing in Jiangsu Province and is an Executive Editor of the American Chemical Society journal Environmental Science & Technology. He was honoured with membership of the US National Academy of Engineering in 2018.
报告内容：
Iron-mediated Fenton processes are widely used to degrade organic contaminants in contaminated waters but suffer from severe limitations including the necessity to operate at low pH and the generation of excessive waste iron-containing sludge. These limitations can potentially be overcome by use of copper rather than iron as the peroxide-activating redox active element. In this talk, Professor Waite will describe recent research in his group on the copper-mediated process and provide insight into conditions required to implement such a process at full scale.
