报告内容:

The Amazon landscape is shaped by the activity of large transcontinental rivers with flowing waters supplied by the South American Monsoon System. The talk will focus on the application of luminescence of quartz and feldspar to determine deposition ages and sources of sediments transported and deposited by the Amazon River and its tributaries during the Quaternary. We will discuss limits and constraints of using quartz and feldspar luminescence for chronology of river terraces across lowland Amazon. We will also explore the use of quartz optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) sensitivity to trace sediment sources of the Amazon River sediments. We will discuss the discrimination between orogenic Andean sediments and cratonic sediments using quartz OSL sensitivity as well as the surface processes and climate changes that can be traced. An example of fluvial landscape changes reconstructed through luminescence methods and their relation with Amazon forest types will be presented.
